Before breaking became an Olympic sport, before it was recognized by international federations, and long before it appeared on the world’s biggest athletic stage, it arrived in our countries through pioneers. One of the most influential crews leading that movement was Turbo.
Turbo was among the first professional dance crews to introduce breaking and modern street dance to mainstream audiences across post-Soviet countries. At a time when breaking was still unknown to most people, Turbo brought it to the stage, to television, and into public consciousness. Their performances demonstrated a completely new level of movement - combining athletic power, musical precision, and professional stage presence.
The crew included dedicated dancers who helped build this foundation, including Ruslan Zhyvokorintsev, along with fellow crew members : Antuan Gnezdo, Vladimir Goncharenko, Konstantin Orlov. Together, they trained, performed, and introduced audiences to a style that would later become a global competitive discipline.
Turbo gained national recognition after winning first place in the televised competition Morning Star, one of the most important television platforms of its time. This victory exposed millions of viewers to breaking and helped establish it as a respected performance form. Their work inspired countless dancers and helped launch the development of breaking culture across the region.
Turbo was more than a crew - it was a starting point. They introduced breaking to a generation that had never seen it before. They helped transform it from an underground movement into a recognized performance discipline.
Today, breaking is officially an Olympic sport. It stands alongside the most respected athletic disciplines in the world, judged at the highest international level.
For those who were part of Turbo - including Ruslan Zhyvokorintsev - this moment carries special meaning. Because Turbo helped bring breaking to post-Soviet countries. They helped build its foundation. They helped shape its future.
And now, seeing breaking on the Olympic stage, we can say with pride - this journey began long before the Olympics, and Turbo was part of that beginning.
